Shared note

RL 16/7/07: I found the following possible marriage entry:

West Ham 4Q 1881, ref 4a 102 Hawke, William Henry L Kirkman, Alice Lovelock, Edwin Robson, Elizabeth

However, neither Graham or I can find Edwin in 1881 to 'test' this - or any other - hypothesis about a marriage.

GL Note 21-Mar-2020: An entry now on the main Lovelock website shows that the Edwin in the above entry was only 22 at his marriage, and was a member of the Portsmouth Tree (qv).

Edwin Charles enlisted on 6 August 1870, giving his place of birth as Whitechapel, and was discharged on 23 August 1881.

He saw service in Zululand, and received gunshot wounds in the forearm, arm and abdomen at the Battle of the Ngogo. At discharge it was stated that 'Effect of wounds permanent and will probably prevent working as a labourer'.
