The Canberra Times Wed 16 November 1977 [Trove Digitised Newspapers] Australians among dead

A Wollongong man and a Melbourne couple were among about 50 people who died in the Manila hotel fire early yesterday. Another Australian tourist is missing following the fire which swept through the 7-storey Hotel Filipinas.

The Wollongong man was Frederick Christopher Cherry. The dead couple were Royce and Ruth Lovelock, of Rendell Court, Oakleigh.

A Foreign Affairs Department spokesman said yesterday that the department was checking to locate more Australians who might have been at the hotel. "As far as we are aware there is only one Australian not accounted for".
