John is listed in Holdens Annual London and Country Directory of 1811 as a Malster at Wallingford.

John appears in 1811 as tenant of Ben Butler. Between 1812 and 1832 he owned a house and courtyard and between 1812 and 1817 two more properties. Between 1818 and 1821 he owned and occupied a Malthouse and between 1828 and 1830 owned and occupied a (Water) Mill and land. In 1832 he only owned (and occupied) one property. Poll Books 1826, 1830 and 1831 show John and his brother James as owning a house and land in Watlington. In 1826 John owned a House and Malt-house and he was the sole occupier as listed. In 1831 John and others occupied house and land. By 1837 they owned houses and land.
