Marriage

By 1861 Timothy and Sarah Schofield were at Railway Bridges, next door to Timothy's brother George. Timothy was a Railway Labourer and Sarah was a Laundress. Living with them were all their children apart from the first John, and Timothy. Joseph, James and John were also Railway Labourers. Timothy and Sarah were still there on the 1871 census, together with their daughters Susan, who was also a laundress, and Ellen who was still at school. Their granddaughter Ruth aged 7 (daughter of Timothy) was also there. In 1874 Timothy and Sarah Scholfield together with their daughter Ellen emigrated to Otago and Southland, New Zealand on the 'Corona'. Timothy died 14th October 1901 in Dunedin, New Zealand. Cause of death was Senile Decay, Cardiac Failure and Dropsy 6 months. At time of death Timothy was living at 14 Leith Street in Dunedin, and was a gardener. He was buried on the 16th October in the Northern Cemetery, Dunedin. He and Sarah are both buried in plot 2, Block 7 of the Northern Cemetery. Note that there is more information on the descendants of Timothy Scuffle and Sarah Lovelock in the document "The Schofield Family" by Eileen of NZ.

Note

There are two possible marriages for Sarah (bap 1816 at Dogmersfield): 1836 Dec 24 Timothy Scuffle and Sarah Lovelock 1841 Nov 6 Henry Clements and Sarah Lovelock

James Loveluck email to Graham Lovelock 13-Jun-06:I think I've also discovered who is the Sarah who married Henry Clements on 6 Nov 1841 - which had bothered me a bit in assigning the Sarah who marr Timothy Scuffle. I found an 1881 census record at Aldershot for Henry Clements age 74 born Hartley Wintney, Horse Keeper, and wife Sarah A Clements age 56 born Dogmersfield (no children, but maybe one would find some in earlier census records). Now in the Hants records we have a Sarah Ann Lovelock baptised 22 Aug 1824 at Dogmersfield, dau of George & Elizabeth Lovelock. So I think this clearly identifies the Sarah who marr Henry Clemnts at HW in 1841, which means that the other marriage of Sarah L to Timothy Scuffle is almost certainly that of the dau of James & Elizabeth L.

From Eileen of NZ, The Schofield Family:Sarah was born around 1818 and her father was a Gardener, and her mother was Elizabeth Lovelock nee Freeman. According to the 1861 census she was born in Dogmersfield but the 1871 has Odiham as her birth place. She was a laundress. On her son Timothy Scuffle's birth certificate, Sarah's name is recorded as Jane Scuffle, but the birth was registered by Elizabeth Lovelock Grandmother. Sarah died on the 10th October 1885 in Dunedin in New Zealand, of Apoplexy and was buried in the Northern Cemetery in Dunedin on the 12th October 1885
